Uma mulher de 52 anos foi diagnosticada com um distúrbio da percepção visual chamado prosopometamorfosia.
A prosopometamorfosia caracteriza-se pela alteração da percepção dos rostos. Estes não são processados corretamente no cérebro e são vistos de forma distorcida pelos pacientes.
Em Julho de 2011, ela foi internada numa clínica psiquiátrica porque ela se queixava de ver as pessoas a transformarem-se em dragões. Tal condições estava a condicionar seriamente a sua vida.
Quando questionada como é um dragão, ela respondeu:
Preto, com orelhas compridas e pontiagudas e um focinho saliente. Têm uma pele de réptil com olhos enormes em amarelo brilhante, verde, azul ou vermelho.
As alucinações não aconteciam apenas quando ela olhava para rostos humanos, mas também quando olhava para paredes, ecrãs, tomadas eléctricas, objectos com e sem parecenças com rostos.
Os exames médicos realizados revelaram que ela tem algumas anormalidades na massa branca do cérebro e após tratamento com mediação para demência melhorou imenso conseguindo até manter o seu emprego.
